Inspired by My Midnight Walk with God...

When I take a walk at midnight to meditate and to pray, the world looks so amazing.

The silent sky and glittering stars seem to be watching and applauding as I fellowship with The Lord.

It all feels so in tune, flowing harmoniously:

God, nature and I

in the midnight silence.

This is when I get to experience total peace and joy.

I get to listen as God whispers into my heart His words filled with love.

This is my response to all that I see and feel in those intimate moments with God.

President's Christmas Card 2010

Every year, our Art Department selects one art student to create an art piece for the Concordia President's Christmas Card. This year, I was the selected student for the assignment and this is what I came up with.

The meaning of the drawing is found in the colors and the gestures.

A simple, symbolic image of Mary and Joseph embracing the new born king, Jesus. His glory illuminates the dark atmosphere and shines on their faces. Their multi-color garments brighten up with the light and everything comes together in an expression of worship.

Worship

Everything has its own source.

And my source is God, the Living God.

When the sun seems to go down on me,

He lifts my soul from darkness and fills me up with floods of Joy.

Kim Walker, in her song How He loves us, she says: "If grace is an ocean, then we're all sinking."

That ocean of Grace is what keeps me alive and I draw from it everyday, all day.

Worship is my deepest passion.

More than art. More than life.

That one passion transcends my human desires and ambitions.

It's the deepest, most amazing thing that God has given me.

It's that one thing that I want to do forever....in this life and the next.

Worship gives me life.

Being able to pour out my deepest affection on God is the most amazing thing in my life!

And being able to open my mouth and share that life-giving experience with other people is what I live for.

It's my greatest joy.

So this peace was just about that. That moment of total worship.

Pouring my heart out to God and Him filling me with His divine joy and peace.

A Night Of Hope

We had A Night Of Hope at Concordia dedicated to Haiti...where people shared their gifts and talents through art, music, literature and poetry to inspire hope. While that was going on, Concordia students and friends had the opportunity to give free-will offerings and donations to help the people in Haiti.

I had the honor and privilege of donating my drawing, titled: "Hope", that I had done especially for the benefit of Haiti...

This is a picture I took with the student donor who got herself the original Senzy drawing titled: "hope"!!! She loved it!! And most of all...her donation will feed many in Haiti!!

This one is my response to the January 2010 Haiti earthquake.

It's an image of a young boy whose face is injured...portraying the hurt, the pain, the loss, the suffering and sense of hopelessness that comes at a time and situation as this.

I clothed him in white bandages and white garments...the color of piece and hope.

So, even though there is pain, there is hope.

And as we respond with care to the people of Haiti, we bring hope in a hopeless situation.

These drawings were produced for my Design class during the Fall semester in 2009.

I was inspired by African fashion and textile for the theme.

The emphasis is on women and African textile patterns.

I used Conte' Crayons on 18''/24'' watercolor paper.

I enjoyed working on the project...

and using Conte' Crayons was so much fun...

I've been experimenting with pens and crosshatching in the past few months...and I love it!

All the drawings I produced were inspired by the realities of my emotional/spiritual life....and every piece means something to me.

"Nobody can snatch you out of my hand"

This drawing was inspired by my spiritual Father who has promised to hold me tight in His mighty hand so that nothing will move me from His presence.

"Head wrap"

This one I did because I LOVE headwraps and hats.

"Expecting"

I have come to understand that each one of us has something great instilled inside of us...we just have to nurture it and patiently wait for it to come out at the right time. That's the inspiration behind this one.

"The Hem"

I was thinking of the woman who had suffered from an issue of blood for twelve years...how she believed that just by touching the hem of Jesus' garment she would be healed. After acting on what she belived, she was instantly healed. Her healing costed her nothing but faith...and I think we have to that many times in our lifetime....faith does wonders...if we act on it.

I did this one for my design class, practicing the crosshatching techniques.

For the "SAAJI FIMBI" Art Exhibition in England.

This art exhibition was inspired by the West African Country of Niger. It was a group exhibition lead by Professor Gretchen Beck, featuring some of my art class mates and hosted by the Contemporary Urban Center Art Gallery in England. The images produced raise awareness about the devastating effects of decertification that is now occurring in the country of Niger and the surrounding areas.
